Application Checklist
The MPA program accepts applications for Fall Semester only.
Before Applying
We suggest meeting with the MPA Program Coordinator to discuss the Program, admission requirements and other pertinent information. Please email Alissa Largin to schedule an appointment.
Admissions Application
The University of Utah has implemented a new online application system called Apply Yourself (AY). All materials required by Graduate Admissions and the MPA Program for applying must be uploaded to this system. The system is user friendly.
If you are applying to a joint program, please select the joint program in Apply Yourself rather than an individual program.
Please also note the joint AY system may request items for only one program--it is vital that you make sure to submit all materials requested by each program.
DEADLINE Feb. 1 (evening) & April 1 (executive)
1. Graduate Entrance Exam
All applicants who have not already completed a post graduate degree must take one of the following entrance exams:
- GMAT (university code 4853: contact 585- 7366 to forward scores to OSH 214)
- GRE (university code 4853; program code 4801)
- LSAT (email pdf results file to program manager)
- Miller Analogies Test (MAT) (university code 4853)
The admissions committee looks at percentile ranks, rather than raw test scores and does not prefer one test over another. The preferred percentile rank is 50% or higher. Please note that students should send these scores to the University of Utah.
2. Letters of Recommendation (three only)
You will enter the e-mail addresses of three reference letter authors. The AY system will then send an e-mail request asking authors to upload their letters. If you finished a degree (undergrad or grad) within the past two years, one of your three letters must be from an undergraduate professor or instructor. Please also note the waiver option in AY.

will help you achieve them, as well as what you bring to the MPA Program).

Immunization Requirement
The University of Utah requires students to have received certain immunizations. Please visit The Student Health Center's website for requirements.
International Students
TOEFL score must be submitted to the Graduate School with application by Feb. 1. The MPA Program requires a TOEFL score of 580 paper, 237 computer or 92 Internet, or higher. The MPA Program also accepts the IELTS test, with a test score of 7.0 or higher. International Students
