CONCENTRATION AREAS


The area of concentration builds special knowledge in a particular administrative skill, governmental program or policy area, or in a particular level of government. Fifteen (15) semester hours are required for an area of concentration. In addition, students' major research papers and internship should be in their areas of concentration. Please remember students can take courses in other departments for their concentrations, but only up to 12 credits. The areas of concentration are listed below, as are the highly suggested/mandatory courses for each concentration.

Policy Analysis

Public Human Resource Management

Open-Ended
You may develop an area not named above by combining courses from several areas or by forming a different area from various relevant courses taught at the University.
No mandatory course, but please consider Policy Analysis, Public Finance (Economics), Organization Productivity & Change or Management of Nonprofits.

Please Note
Courses in the areas of concentration may be drawn from various departments and colleges. Please send a copy of the syllabus to the program manager for approval. The program manager will determine if the course fits under one of the concentrations and has a tie to public administration
